Since 1992, October 10th has been internationally recognized as World Mental Health Day. Aiming to raise awareness through education and advocacy, this holiday highlights the universal issue of mental health.
As a professional in the field of psychiatry, Julio Licinio is proud of World Mental Health Day’s efforts to educate the public about psychological well-being. Too often, mental health is stigmatized by the general public. Licinio is particularly passionate about World Mental Health Day because it serves as a reminder that mental health is a universal experience. Treating and caring for one’s mental health does not necessarily denote a problem or illness. But unfortunately, this is largely misunderstood in the world today.
This year, the international holiday is setting emphasis on the COVID pandemic’s impact on mental health around the world. It is impossible to ignore how the global pandemic has affected the world, collectively, on a psychological level. But unfortunately, far too many people are struggling to cope with these newfound difficulties and life changes. Julio Licinio, and World Mental Health Day, are setting out to remind these individuals that you are not alone. There are so many resources available to assist you — today and everyday.
In support of World Mental Health Day, Julio Licinio encourages you to consider supporting a mental health awareness initiative local to you!
